ToolAbroad publishes hands-on comparisons of SaaS and web services from around the world, in English and Japanese. The focus is on tools that are well known in one market and under-documented in another — the kind of product where the pricing page makes sense only after you've been billed once.
How the articles are written
- Each comparison starts from a concrete job to be done, not from a feature list.
- Pricing is read the way it will actually be invoiced: seat minimums, tier gates, add-ons and annual-only discounts are called out.
- Where a tool is a poor fit for a use case, the article says so — including tools that pay a commission.
- Articles are revised when vendors change plans. If something here no longer matches a vendor's site, please let us know.
Who runs this site
ToolAbroad is written and maintained by tknzk, an independent software engineer based in Japan who builds and operates his own apps, and who has spent a long time evaluating overseas tools for use in Japanese teams. Every price and commission term quoted here is read off the vendor's own pricing and terms pages, with the date it was checked.
